EDWINS SHAKER SQUARE FUNDRAISER AIMS TO BUILD SECURE HOUSING FOR RESTAURANT WORKERS

 

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Respected chefs from around Cleveland and other U.S. cities will lend a hand on Monday, Feb. 23, at Edwins Restaurant in Shaker Square to help raise funds to create secure housing for its workers in the nearby Buckeye neighborhood of Cleveland.

Edwins Leadership Institute and Restaurant, the training restaurant’s formal name, employs and teaches recently incarcerated and released individuals to work in the restaurant’s kitchen, lounge and dining room. In turn, the organization’s program gives graduates a chance at careers in the food-service industry.

EDWINS RESTAURANT PLANS DORMITORY-STYLE HOUSING FOR HOMELESS WORKERS

In just over a year since it opened, Edwins Leadership and Restaurant Institute has trained almost 50 formerly convicted criminals in the art of working at an upscale French restaurant. It has also trained another 30 at the Grafton Correctional Institute. Now, founder and CEO Brandon Chrostowski is taking it to the next level by helping his students start their new careers on the right footing.
